about

My new album will be released next week. It features some songs that I recorded for a radio show I host called The Great American Folk Show, every Saturday at 5PM CT on Prairie Public.

A couple great artists join me on the album, including Sean Watkins, Chel White, and Heidi Lynne Gluck. A couple more have brought the project to life. Robb Robinson mixed and mastered the songs, Frida Clements did the album artwork, and photographer Kary Janousek took my photo, which will be on the back cover. Do you know how grateful I am to work with such talented people? As far as my arms can stretch and then some.

Half the album is dedicated to performers who passed away in last few years, such as Tina Turner and David Crosby and Mimi Parker of Low, singers whom I have deeply loved and admired, who have been a light to me on my own dark pathway through life. Music really has the power to save. The other half is just plain old great songs written by some fantastic living songwriters. Here’s the list and who wrote them:

“Cut Me Down (reprise)” - Tom Brosseau
“20/ 20 Vision” - Joe Allison and Milton Estes
“Some Day Soon” - Ian Tyson
“Simply the Best” - Mike Chapman and Holly Knight
“Sunflower” - Alan Sparhawk
“TV” - Robyn Hitchcock
“Lullaby for Cain” - Anthony Minghella and Gabriel Andre Yared
“Foolish Questions” - A. Baldwin Sloane and William Lee
“Mercury” - Adam Duritz and David Bryson
“The Secret Dancer” - David Crosby and James John Raymond
“Under African Skies” - Paul Simon
“A Bird Is Following Me” - Tom Brosseau and Chel White

Songs from The Great American Folk Show, Volume 1 will be available digitally on October 3rd. And a limited edition 7” blue single will be cut by hand by musician and producer, Barry Brusseau, my long lost relative in Oregon. Side A “Sunflower”, Side B “TV”. You may order the single right here with me. Simply leave a note🌾
